1. Reflect on your ideal clients:
In a Word Doc or Google Doc, answer the following questions, writing a few sentences for each:
Who are my dream clients? (Think about the industries or people you’d love to work with.)
What makes these clients a good fit for me? (Skills match, shared values, interesting projects?)
2. Use ChatGPT to create your persona: Copy the following prompt into ChatGPT and replace the placeholders (marked@) with your answers:
I’m a @ [eg. Freelancer, marketing manager] in @ [ your field] trying to identify my ideal client and create a persona for them that I can use in my business.
Your task is to act like a persona-builder and—based on the following details—create a detailed client persona for me. The persona should be detailed enough for me to have a really good idea of the type of person this is professionally and personally (you must give them a name and try not to fit into clichés too much). It should touch on all their pain points and strengths, but not be so detailed that it’s overwhelming for me to use.
Here are some details:
My skills are: @ [ list 4-5 skills]
My professional interests are: @ [ list 4-5 interests]
I enjoy working with people like: @ [ describe 2-3 dream clients or industries]
I want to solve problems like: @ [ describe 2-3 problems you want to address—use the work from your reflection as a starting point!]
Please include the following information:
Persona name
Persona tagline
Persona greeting (how they would greet me if I wanted to strike up a conversation with them)
Persona description (no more than 500 characters: include age, race, goals, job title, challenges, strengths, values, and preferences)
Persona backstory (no more than 2000 characters: include how they talk, idiosyncrasies, motivations, drives, irritations, and intrigues).
3. Refine the output: If the persona feels generic or incomplete, refine it further by asking ChatGPT to:
"Focus on clients in @ [ industry X] who struggle with [ challenge Y]."
"Add more details about [@ X], and reduce the emphasis on [@ Y]."
4. Optional
Create multiple personas: If you serve two distinct client types, repeat this process for the other audience.
Generate a profile picture: Ask ChatGPT to create an image concept for your persona (e.g., photograph, cartoon, anime).
Save your persona: Copy-paste the name, tagline, description, and backstory into your playbook. Upload the profile picture to complete your persona.
